Madisonville-North Hopkins athletic director Gale Travis announced Jon Hood would be named 2009 Kentucky's Mr. Basketball in a ceremony at 2:25 p.m. today at Maroon Gym.
The Messenger was notified shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday that Hood will be awarded with the state's most honored basketball award.
The Louisville Courier-Journal originally reported on its Web site before 4 p.m. Hood had been named Mr. Basketball.
The article stated Hood would be presented with the award Wednesday in a ceremony at North, but Maroons coach Marty Cline said he could not confirm or deny the statement during a phone call with The Messenger shortly after the Courier-Journal's initial release.
The award is typically announced on the Wednesday following the Miss Basketball presentation, which was held March 25, Cline said.
At 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Messenger spoke with Hood, who said he had just been told of the Courier-Journal's report by his father, Brian.
In response to a possible ceremony, Hood said, "I really don't know about announcements for anything like that."

Many have speculated from as early as preseason that Hood would earn the state's most honored distinction in basketball.
Hood, a 6-7 swingman and University of Kentucky signee, has already notched several impressive titles, including 2nd Region Player of the Year, Kentucky High School Coaches Association Outstanding Senior of the Year, Gatorade Kentucky Boys Basketball Player of the Year and Associated Press Player of the Year.
During his senior campaign, Hood averaged 28.7 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.1 blocked shots, 2.5 assists and 2.3 steals a game for the Maroons.
North finished the 2008-09 season with an 11-13 record.
