Spring weather has been unpredictable of late, but Hopkins County Central graduates Mitchell Faulk and Richard Moore have managed to get out on the golf course for Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Faulk and Moore, both Panther freshman and 2008 Central grads, participated in a 13-team event at Northern Kentucky University on March 21 and 22.

Faulk began the weekend strong with a 78 in his opening round and the next day he turned in an 83 to take 77th overall. Moore opened with a 91, but fired an 81 on Sunday to fight his way back to 91st place.

In their first seasons at the collegiate level, Faulk and Moore have averaged rounds of 80 and 81.3 respectively.

Faulk, Moore and the rest of the Panther golf team play in the Midwest Regionals on Saturday and Sunday.

Women's tennis

Also at Kentucky Wesleyan, Madisonville-North Hopkins graduate Brittany Deese made her spring season debut on Friday.

The Lady Panthers ran into some tough competition in No. 31 nationally ranked Drury College (Mo.).

In doubles action, Deese, a junior, and partner Alycia Lynch lost 8-0 to Drury's duo of Lindsey Castrodale and Anna Lustig. As a team, Wesleyan fell 5-0.

The Lady Panthers will look to get their first team victory of the spring at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's College of Indiana.

Men's track

Barry Quinn competed in his first outdoor meet of the season for the Western Kentucky University track team during the weekend.

After nearly four months of indoor competition, Quinn, who ran track and played football at North, ran in the 800-meter race at the University of Alabama Relays at Sam Bailey Track.

Quinn claimed 36th place with a finishing time of 2:05.99.
