Hopkins County product Emile Ewing captured a second-place award as part of a relay team and three top-10 individual performances for Auburn University (Ala.) at the Southeastern Conference Swimming Championships, which finished Feb. 21.

Ewing, a Madisonville-North Hopkins graduate, and the Tigers' women's team took second place overall, losing 744-730.5 to the University of Florida.

The former Lady Maroon swam the second leg of Auburn's 200-yard freestyle relay team, which earned 34 points with a second-place finish in 1:28.50.

Individually, Ewing's best effort came in the 200-yard backstroke. She claimed eighth place overall with a time of 1:55.97.

Ewing also earned a pair of ninth-place finishes in the 50 free (:22.45) and 200 free (1:45.35). During both finals races, Ewing cut time from her preliminaries. In the 200 free, Ewing cut nearly one and one-half seconds with a 1.42-seconds improvement.

Auburn returns to the pool Friday in the Bulldog Invitational, a three-day event hosted by the University of Georgia.

Senior Brock Jones and the Transylvania University Pioneers wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a win on Feb. 21.

The Pioneers earned the conference's top seed after Defiance College (Ohio) defeated Franklin College (Ind.). Following the Defiance victory, Transylvania won a first-place tie breaker with Franklin to host the HCAC Tournament.

Jones shined on Senior Night by shooting 4-of-9 from the field for 12 points. He was one of two Pioneer players to post double figures offensively.

Transylvania returned to the hardwood at 7 p.m. Friday against Anderson, but no statistics were available at press time.

Three days later, Jackson tallied four points and one rebound in the Dogs' 69-47 loss to the University of Mississippi.
