As the calendar turns to May, Opening Day for the Tradewater Pirates looms just four weeks away and many of this year's players are now hitting their peak with their respective college teams.

Two of the hottest players are Colby Price and Brock Green, both future Pirate infielders.

After spending much of the season as one of the top reserves for the Oral Roberts University (Okla.) baseball team, Price has manufactured a breakout series of games by starting the last 10 contests for the Golden Eagles.

At one point during that stretch, Price carried a seven-game hitting streak. During the streak, Price hit 15-for-28 (.536) with 12 RBIs.

Primarily used as a second and third baseman, Price has raised his batting average to .342 during his latest hot streak.

At Ouachita Baptist University (Ark.), Green has also been producing at a high rate. Green, a corner infielder, currently boasts a 10-game hitting streak during which he has batted .438. Green ranks second on his squad with a .359 average. In 31 at-bats with two outs, Green has hit an astounding .516.

Tradewater's only returning player from its 2008 regular season championship Sean Mahley continues to lead the University of the Cumberlands in many offensive categories. Mahley, an outfielder/pitcher, leads his team in hits (55), runs (51) and RBIs (48) and boasts a .331 average. Mahley has also shown considerable patience at the plate walking 28 times while only striking out 11.

hus far this season, Mahley has also exhibited an ability to combine speed and power with 17 stolen bases, 14 doubles and seven home runs all the while starting each of Cumberlands' 50 contests this season.

Also with the Cumberlands, catcher Miguel Vasquez has been doing his best to keep pace with the offensive-minded Mahley. Vasquez has a .309 average with 46 hits and leads the squad with 15 doubles.

Barton County Community College (Kan.) player Austin Messerli finished the regular season with an average of .390 and added 34 RBIs, both second-best for the Cougars.

Reliever Dustin Williams will play in his final regular season game at 3 p.m. today for Oklahoma City University at Southern Nazarene University (Okla.). Entering the final contest, Williams has posted a 3-1 record and 4.08 ERA in 17 appearances. Williams has struck out 62 batters in 39 2/3 innings.

Oklahoma City will begin the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Monday.

Ryan Tabor, a reliever for Georgia College & State University, has crafted a 5-1 record with a 2.70 ERA in a team-high 27 appearances. His strikeout-to-walk ratio also ranks among the best over 4:1 with 31 punchouts and seven walks.

Starting pitcher Nolan Mullaney entered his final game of the season on Wednesday with a 7-4 record and 3.75 ERA. Mullaney, who attends San Bernardino Valley College (Calif.), leads his team in wins, strikeouts (61) and games started (11).

One of Tradewater's latest signees, shortstop Cass Via also recently ended his regular season on Sunday. Via finished the year with a .385 average for Garden City Community College (Kan.). Even hitting at a near .400 clip, Via ranked fourth on his team for average. Via started 54 contests and ranked first in hits (72) and third in both RBIs (45) and stolen bases (9).

Also a fresh signee, Kody Thiebaud has compiled a 9-0 record and 4.85 ERA for Texas Wesleyan University. Thiebaud's nine wins rank him 15th in NAIA Division I. Thiebaud has totaled 52 innings in 17 games.

Tradewater begins the 2009 season May 29 when the Pirates play host to the Marion Bobcats.
