Angela Mullins, who starred in her high school tenure at Hopkins County Central, turned in a pair of solid performances for the Murray State University women's basketball team during competition in the past week.

In the Racers' 80-60 win against Houston Baptist (Texas) on Friday, Mullins posted a career-high 11 rebounds. Mullins also scored four points for Murray, which trailed by five at halftime.

Murray head coach Rob Cross told GoRacers.com he was proud of Mullins' effort.

"Angela Mullins might have only had four points for us, but she had 11 huge rebounds," he said. "That high number of rebounds will just help her continue to gain confidence as we head into conference play."

During Sunday's match-up at Miami University (Ohio), Mullins converted that confidence into offense by making each of her four attempts from the field for 10 points. The game marked the second time of the season Mullins amassed double-digits. Mullins, a senior, also snagged four rebounds, but Murray came up short, 73-69.

Mullins began her string of recent success during her team's 90-69 victory over Alabama A&M on Dec. 17. The forward hit three of her four shot attempts and helped the Racers rebound from a 57-52 loss to the University of Evansville (Ind.) on Dec. 14.

"Our leaders, Mallory Luckett, Ashley Hayes, Amber and Paige Guffey, and Angela Mullins, did a great job preparing the team for this game and making sure that the same thing that happened (Dec. 14) did not happen again," Cross said after defeating Alabama A&M.
Murray currently sits at 6-6 overall and will move into the heart of its Ohio Valley Conference schedule beginning 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the University of Tennessee-Martin.

nThe Lee University women's basketball team (10-3) earned its 10th win of the season on Dec. 18 by defeating St. Catharine Collage (8-9) by a score of 76-62.

Lady Flames player Kari Jo Harris, a 2008 Central graduate, recorded four rebounds, two points and one assist in the victory.

Lee next plays at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3 against Brewton-Parker College (Ga.).

Georgia Bulldogs basketball team continued, as they have much of the season, to go down to the wire before deciding an outcome with back-to-back buzzer-beating shots in the past week.

On Saturday, the former Storm star Jackson and Georgia defeated the Wofford Terriers (S.C.) 74-73 in overtime.

Bulldog sophomore Zac Swansey hit a three-pointer as time expired to secure the come-from-behind victory. Swansey collected a rebound on a missed free-throw attempt and raced the length of the court to hit the winning pull-up jumper

Jackson pitched in the winning effort with five rebounds, four points and two blocks.

Monday's last-second shot did not favor Georgia, however, when the Bulldogs squared off with visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders' Kevin Palmer nailed a three-pointer off the glass as time ran off for an 80-79 win.

Jackson started the game and posted three rebounds, one point and one steal.

The loss dropped Georgia's overall record to 7-4.

Former Madisonville-North Hopkins basketballer Brock Jones made back-to-back starts during the past week for Transylvania University after playing as the team's sixth man to begin the season.

The Pioneers defeated Maryville College of Tenn. (4-4) 85-79 on Dec. 18 and Jones, a forward, nabbed three rebounds, two points and two assists.

On Monday, Transylvania (5-2) dropped an 85-80 contest to Berea College (8-5).

Jones scored 10 points and represented one of five Pioneer players to reach double-digits. The senior shot five-of-six from the free-throw line.
